Are we suppose to lead others to Christ?

God our Savior would have all men to be saved. (1Tim. 2:4)

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:44)

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. (John 14:6-7)

In these late days of my life, I find the simplest of joys as most satisfying. I need not big events or crowds to fill my soul’s desire for contentment. When I hold my granddaughter, I see the existence of God in her eyes. As I hold my wife’s hand on a walk and look into her eyes, I see the windows of her soul and a reflection of forty years we have shared. I experience her forgiveness, she teaches me how to love and to give away. Being the father of the two young men I call sons, has humbled me to my knees so many times, they taught me how to “slow down” and enjoy life.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I have come to know his father, God. I have experienced the results of living a life that more often now, than before, exposes the inner Spirit of God. Love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, and meekness, are the fruits of the tree of life. Who would not want these?

Sharing Christ with others is the primary response to our sense of fidelity to Jesus Christ. We have this desire to share the Word of God, to share our testimony of what God has done in our lives. When these sharings are rejected, we feel like we somehow “missed the mark” (Greek, skopeo). But let us remember this, every person on earth is called by God or drawn to him at least one time in their life. It is Jesus’ desire that all men be saved (1Tim. 2:4), thus all are called or drawn to God at his hand. Most refuse His calling. Let me give you comfort here. In Acts 26, Paul shares his greatest teaching. Those listening included King Agrippa, Festus and others. As Paul ends his teaching, Agrippa states, “Paul you almost persuaded me to become a Christian”. Even the great Paul experienced this rejection by man.

So this is how it all works out. Everyone born is called by God during his lifetime. Sometimes the calling is being drawn to God for just a brief season. Often the cares and concerns of this world take precedence instead. They say, “I’ll come back in the years to come, but not now”. They believe they can just choose God when they want to. The above verses make it clear, you cannot come to Jesus, unless you are drawn to Jesus by God. So with this in mind, be not dismayed when our efforts in sharing and leading others to Christ do not produce fruit. We can plant or water, but it is God who gives the increase. 1 Cor. 3:6.
