Fools & Foolishness

"The fool has said in his heart, '’There is no God". (Psalm 14:1 and Psalm 53:1). The natural man, a man who is not a Christian is without the Spirit of God. They may say, “I don’t have time for this now, ..maybe later”. Without the Spirit of God, one cannot receive the things of God. He is unable to accept, understand these matters and the guidance God offers us. Who doesn’t want God’s guidance? Without the guidance from the Holy Spirit, the words of God are utter foolishness. Only those who have the Spirit of God within them, can comprehend the words and thoughts of God. (1 Corinthians 2).

HOW NOT TO BE FOOLISH

The Holy Spirit is simply the Spirit of God. In John14:26, Jesus (our first comforter) told us that once the Holy Spirit (the second comforter) comes into us, the Spirit of God will teach spiritual matters. You cannot demand or expect the Holy Spirit to come into you, by hurriedly spewing out John 3:16 or Romans 10:9-10, in an emotional state at the end of a church service. You must remember that Jesus said, “unless a man is born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). He explained what this meant by saying that fleshly matters are of the world and spiritual matters are from the Spirit. You must be born of the Spirit (a spiritual event) as opposed to being born of your mother (a fleshly event). There must be a desire based on faith in your heart.

A person cannot come to Christ (seeking salvation) unless he is drawn to him, (John 6:44). Every person is drawn to God during sometime in his life (1Timothy 2:4). The sooner we yield, the sooner the Holy Spirit will come to dwell within us. (1 Corinthians 3:16) and the sooner we are enabled to understand the width and depth of the spiritual nature of the things of God. Do you remember the thieves on the cross next to Jesus? One responded to being drawn by Jesus and was saved (Luke 24:40-43). The man who filled his life with worldly events in Matthew 7:21, was not saved as he never accepted God, despite his numerous good works.

So, with this in mind, when a fool says that the bible is just and old book, and that they just need to be “good”, they deny the existence of God and what He has said. In order to comprehend Spiritual Matters, you must have the “credentials” that a believer has. A believer is one who has absolute faith in what God says in the Bible. That faith will cause the draw of God to be manifested in a person by accepting the Holy Spirit. We as believers are the temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor. 3:16; He lives within us. God designed the simplicity of the gospel to save the meek and to confuse the “wise and proud”. When an unbeliever says that they need a sign, first, before they believe, they are asking to bypass the Holy Spirit, before understanding the things of God.
